This is one of my all-time favorites.
I've heard two theories to the overall message of the book. The first group says the author is a believer in fairy tales and is making fun of realists (himself.) The second group says the author is making fun of fairy tales and really believes "life isn't fair." I hold with the "life isn't fair" group but think he also encourages you to enjoy the good you have.

LOVE IT!!!! I've never read a book that was exactly like the movie. I couldn't help but laugh with it.

Delightful. I love Goldman's sense of humor. Reading the book gave me a new appreciation of the film.
