Yes, it is funny. I think Goldman is a great writer - I really enjoyed his story - but there was a certain point that I also became irritated with his approach - although I am not totally sure of what it is - some sort of romantic/adventure farce. I am glad I finally read it - my daughter's honor's English class is reading it this summer. I am interested to see where the teachers are going with this . . .

This is, in my personal opinion, one of the funniest books of all time. I'm usually the last person on the planet to say that a movie's as good as a book, but having grown up with the movie, I'm a tad bit biased. The narration is hysterical, and the humor throughout is extremely reminiscent of the same type that made Hitchhiker's a non-stop laugh riot.
THIS is the book you need to read. In any and all situations, I prescribe Goldman to pull you out of any doldrums. ...more
