This was a light read. Often that is exactly what I am looking for. A good friend gave me this book as a gift because it is her favourite. It's the kind of book that I will read every few years. I loved the characters, and how they changed with the passage of years, before and after WWII. Ms Pilcher writes with a rather old fashioned British attitude, dwelling on simple things that really matter in life.
