I thoroughly enjoyed this novel from beginning to end. I sympathised with Celie's character and found it profoundly touching that her abusive husband was later able to acknowledge his mistakes in life and attempt to change himself. Everyone loves a story with a happy ending and I'm no exception. So you can imagine my joy when Nettie and her family returned from Africa, reuniting Celie with her sister and children. This book was like a slap in the face and then coming back for more and more and more until there are huge welts showing fingers on your cheek.
It was difficult to read but I kept coming back for more. Just when you think that things are looking up, another horrible thing happens to the main character or someone in her family.
The choice to write the entire book in the form of letters was interesting but I think the story would have worked if told in first person or even third person view without ...more

What can I say about this classic that hasn't been said before and better?? I finally read it, loved it and am remembering it.
