My husband was watching this movie on TV a couple of weeks ago, and it caught my attention. I remembered having read the book YEARS ago, enjoying it, and wanting to read it again. (That really was all I remembered about it.) So I bumped this up to the top of my list, and dove right in.

The book definitely makes me want to visit Savannah at some point. Beyond that, I found it very meh. I definitely got somewhat caught up with the murder trial at the plot’s center, but the book takes an entire first Part to get there. Meantime we are regaled by the author’s various interactions with an increasingly odd set of characters. Charming, but for the most part not terribly interesting. At least not to me. Very interesting read. I would have rated it 5 stars but the first half of the book was just getting to know the different characters. That, in itself, seemed a bit overwhelming having to remember so many names and where they linked with the book. I think it would have been an easier read if it were spread out more.
