One of the best titles around, and apparently a real boost to the tourism trade of Savannah. Having read the book, I have joined the numbers who want to hop on a plane and go there to see the place for themselves.
This is a book about a murder, and the ripples that event caused to the people and the place. That it is true only adds to the strangeness of the story, and as time passes the author has to write himself into the story because he becomes part of it.

Eh...it was OK. I had this on my TBR pile for ages, so I finally got around to taking it out of the library. I figured if it had been made into a movie (which I haven't seen), it must be some kinda good?
Unfortunately I just found it to be very slow. I think part of it was the writing format. First I was under the impression that it was a sort of travel memoir...OK, fine. But then all of a sudden it switched over to more of a murder mystery. By the end, I could see where Berendt was going with it ...more

Some interesting characters,especially since it is a true story. The South both intrigues and repels me.
I read The Book several years ago. I just put in my to pile to read again after a trip to Savannah. What can I say the movie was good, but as usual didn't do the book justice. If you what a good read about a great city and its eccentric citizens, than pick up this book next time you pass a bookstore.
