When I start this book, I already knew its gonna end badly. So yes, I do start the book with expectation. The diary itself is nothing special. It’s a personal record of a young girl everyday life so its not something for me to judge on the content. You just take it as it is. The more I read her diary the more I get familiar with her personal life, people around her, and unknowingly I start to share her emotion. Somewhere along the way slowly I start to forget about her sad ending. Towards the end she sound so positive about the end of war and excited to come out from hiding, and like an idiot I start to be excited with her.

When the diary end so abruptly on 1 August 1944, I still act like an idiot and asking “wait I need to know when they gonna be free!!!”………… so freaking stupid….. I should have known coz the diary stop so suddenly….

So when I read the afterword and found out that they been captured by the Nazis on 4 August 1944 and sent to jews camp…. It really took me by surprise. I am so surprise to the point I start to cry like a little girl. It feels like im losing a bunch of friends. This whole family that I get to know them at personal level through Anne eyes, and suddenly all of them die a horrible death….. it is devastating.

Like I said the diary itself is nothing special. It’s a personal record of her life, sometimes its interesting, sometimes its boring. But when you read it you realize that in 3 years she force to grow up and matured when living in hiding. And despite of her circumstances she tries to keep positives and be brave about life. And you start to cheer for her coz u knows she deserve a good life, and after all that to learn about her tragic ending….. is really what make this diary impactful.

In the first place its never about Anne’s diary… it’s about what war has cost humanity. Anne diary can be anybody diary. It can be a diary of little Fatima or Aisya who live in small town in Syria. What makes me feel worse is not just about how horrible Anne’s life abruptly ended, but to realize that somewhere, someplace RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT there are still little children kills by war. Human being learns nothing from history.
