How can a book be beautiful and terrifying at the same time? I literally woke up each day (while reading this) grateful for not being in Gilead yet petrified at the possibility that, in some way, we might just be in it already.

"Night falls. Or has fallen. Why is it that night falls instead of rising like the dawn? Yet if you look east, at sunset, you can see night rising, not falling; darkness lifting into the sky, up from the horizon, like a black sun behind cloud cover. Like smoke from an unseen fire, a line of fire just below the horizon, brushfire or a burning city. Maybe night falls because it's heavy, a thick curtain pulled up over the eyes. Wool blanket. I wish I could see in the dark, better than I do."

Rada beda-beda dikit sama di seri tipinya ya? Yang ini dengan ending yang lebih membuat bertanya-tanya. Apa jadinya nasib Offred? Di tipi itu Serena lebih fanatik dan kejam. Di sini tampak bosan dan membosankan tapi bisa kita olok-olok. Klo Serena di tipi apa bisa kita ketawain? Kayak terlalu sempurna gituh.
Commander sama misteriusnya.
Nick lebih ganteng yang di tipi :D.
Aunt Lidia lebih serem yang di tipi.

Loved this book. Very reminiscent of Orwell's 1984, which I've also enjoyed. This book looks into a possible future--one where the religious right has taken charge. Since fertility rates dropped in the general population, women are now seen only as reproductive vessels, and treated as such. This novel is told from the perspective of one such woman, being kept against her will so she can give birth to a powerful man's child.
