I thought it would be more exciting, but The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo actually reads like a modern bestseller thriller of clichés. There’s a May-September romance, a serial murder, Asperberg’s syndrome (my sister, a psychologist, rolled her eyes and said, “There’s always a du jour.”). Sadists, incest, mafia, financial scandal.. This isn't great literature, but it is a good read. I swallowed the almost 600 pages down in two days. The beginning was a bit slow--I was frankly bored at points in the first 35 pages with all that was dumped on us about the financial world. But I felt it picked right up with the introduction of Lizbeth, the girl in the title and increasingly felt involved as the mystery about Harriet Vanger's disappearance unfolded.

Just finished 300 pages straight to finish this book. Complex plot with charectars held in the same capacity. This is a whodunit which I'm not a big fan of, but this was a damn good whodunit.
The overall theme and tone were consistent with the genra, and sometimes came across to me as cliche or corny, but in the end I was thoroughly entertained. ...more
