First in a trilogy about Lisbeth Salander, an anti-social, computer-hacking, crime-solving genius. Or whatever.
Originally written in Swedish, the translation into (British) English leaves a lot to be desired. It's unintentionally funny at times due to awkward phrasing and overly-simplistic writing. The author also spends an inordinate amount of time explaining how everyone uses Apple computers and how all the furniture comes from IKEA (I guess we, the readers, are supposed to know what each name ...more

Major Point: If you are uncomfortable with or triggered by graphic, repeated descriptions of sexual violence do NOT read. Seriously. Do not disregard the other warnings because you have heard such great things about this book. It is in no way worth it.
Basic problems: terrible writing (seriously, at 9:00 x happened, then at 6:00 x happened, at 7:15 _ decided to do x instead...), gratuitous sexual violence, unbelievable two-dimensional characters, a graphic weak plot that requires exceptional susp ...more

There are more than enough reviews out there that recount the story with much more detail than I can almost a year and a half after I read it so I won't bother. The bottom line is the book takes a while to get go ...more

I had already heard over and over that it starts slow, so I was ready for that. I just kept going and then all of a sudden, I couldn't put it down. Loved it.

I really liked the mystery but did not like the underlying financial story as much. Overall, it was a good book. I'm excited to read the next one!
