Seung gives an interesting tour of the brain in action with the focus on how neurons communicate. Chapters begin with stories to introduce major ideas but this is essentially a technical book. It's well-written, so a determined layman can work his or her way through. I was a bit disappointed because knowledge of how neurons communicate is still fairly primitive. New tools will have to emerge before scientists will be able to identify the neural circuitry responsible for specific functions like m ...more
