Again, Marie Sexton reduces me to an emotional wreck by wrenching my heart out and then sending it soaring with joy at the end.
Maybe I'm just a sucker for the stories about the socially inept cases finding their dream, but the insight and empathy that Marie Sexton brings to her writing is second to none.
Owen is a recluse, socially awkward, has an amputated arm from an amniotic band at birth and stutters. I mean, what more could go wrong with the poor guy? oh yes, a mother from hell and the stuff ...more

The last book in the Tucker Springs series (well at least at the moment) and it’s about the quiet veterinarian I knew nothing about, Nick. He ends up moving to the downstairs apt next to Owen. Owen left arm is partially missing from a birth defect called Amniotic Band, and the poor guy stutters as well. And because of both these issues Owen pretty much stays in the house and has no friends. OMG my heart broke in two for this guy.
So Owens new downstairs neighbor immediately starts up a friendshi ...more

This is one of my favourite Tucker Springs stories.
I liked the concept - two men, both inside their own cages, both needing someone else to see it and help them.
I liked the problems that pushed them into these cages. They weren't superficial, but serious issues and that made the whole situation much more believable.
I didn't mind the raving harpy mother. Yes, mean mothers seem to be common enough in this genre. But so are nice mothers actually (I have read lots of books with either). I guess, ...more

I said to myself, "I'm just going to read a chapter or two before I start writing today." And I couldn't put it down. It's fantastic, a thoughtful story that was handled with grace and humor (and heat, of course :) Can't rec this highly enough. I still have a stuffy nose from crying. But good crying, you know?

I loved this story. Owen in my eyes is a hero for living with a terrible mother who made him feel bad, Ridiculed him, verbally bitten him down, she made him ashamed of himself and his arm. Owen was so ashamed of his life he turned into a hermit until he met Nick. Then there's Nick a sexy veterinarian who rescues abandoned animals and donates his time to spay and neuter animals at the shelter. Nick has his owns secrets and crosses to bare and by being ashamed of his past he doesn't think he deser

Nice story about two men with problems but helping each other to work them out. Owen is a recluse with very low self-esteem. Nick has a secret and guilt that keeps him from getting romantically involved with others. Nick's part of the story at time frustrated me but Owen's character was delightful and really helped keep me engaged in the story. It was really great to watch Owen go from the guy who only fantasized about having a relationship to the girl that he has never really talked to the guy

There was nothing I didn't like about this book except that it was too short.
