Slightly uncomfortable read. Not sure if I will read the rest of the series as didn't realise it was serial and only the first 2 have been released. If each instalment had its own conclusion then it may be different but I hate these hanging ends where I have to wait months to find out what happens. It's like reading a couple of chapters and then having to put a book down and by the time the next one is released you have to go back and read the earlier ones. This was brutal. Just cruel. I seriously don't know what to say. I'm in shock, I have a knot in my stomach and tears burning my eyes. How can people do something like this ?

Dougie... I can't even imagine. It doesn't even cross my mind the fear, the panic and the pain he must have felt. Clearly he's going to be the one going complete submissive for whatever those disgusting people want to to him. But who can judge him ?? Meh. Wasn't bad, I guess, but there wasn't really a sense of urgency, not really. I mean, yeah it was dark-ish, but it seemed to be all overtones.

I think I was honestly more shocked/traumatized by A Dangerous Man. I suppose what I'm trying to say that while this was rather harder on the physical horror, there was a lot more that could have been done with the psychological horror?

Either way, I also didn't get the "twitchy for the next book" feeling and was actually left rather bored by it.

Like other reviewers here, I was at a loss on how to rate this one. I of course didn't 'like' the story, but if nothing else, I found it extremely compelling. The books I enjoy the most, make me feel something, and I had a boatload of feelings with this one. I was disgusted, sad, furious and a myriad of other emotions. I am very interested to read the fates of Dougie and Mat. Underneath it all, I found this first part of the story well written and completely captivating. ...more
