Brutal, horrifying and brilliantly written. I'm sure that more terrible things will happen throughout the series, but despite that I really want to read more, to find out what happens to Mat and Dougie.

Slightly uncomfortable read. Not sure if I will read the rest of the series as didn't realise it was serial and only the first 2 have been released. If each instalment had its own conclusion then it may be different but I hate these hanging ends where I have to wait months to find out what happens. It's like reading a couple of chapters and then having to put a book down and by the time the next one is released you have to go back and read the earlier ones. Meh. Wasn't bad, I guess, but there wasn't really a sense of urgency, not really. I mean, yeah it was dark-ish, but it seemed to be all overtones.
I think I was honestly more shocked/traumatized by A Dangerous Man. I suppose what I'm trying to say that while this was rather harder on the physical horror, there was a lot more that could have been done with the psychological horror?
Either way, I also didn't get the "twitchy for the next book" feeling and was actually left rather bored by it.
