A good summer read about a young attorney in NYC who becomes involved with an older married man, a partner in her firm, who has a young child she later becomes a semi-willing step-mother to. Central Park plays a big role in this book and it's neat the way she weaves this into the story. It is a book about loss and adjustment, living with one's decisions and secrets that lurk in self-doubt and betrayal. I enjoy Waldman's writing style and it made for a nice summer read, it's a fast read, a bit li ...more

I love this book. I love Ayelet Waldman. Her writing is so beautiful and she does such a great job of capturing the emotional lives of her characters. I read this book in a little more than a day (I had to work) and cannot recommend it highly enough.

And for those of you who read this one, Red Hook Road is terrific, too.

Excellent! One of the best fiction books I've read in awhile. I absolutely adored William (who is five years old) and his budding relationship with Emelia.

I'm so glad I was introduced to this author. This is the second piece I've read by her and I haven't been disappointed yet!

Despite the grim subject matter (woman grieving after baby died from SIDS) it was a mostly good read chick lit type of read. The author created a flawed (and not always believable) but mostly sympathetic main character who grows and changes despite herself. Waldman is a reliably entertaining read, if not great literature.

this is a little love story to nyc, but especially to Central Park. it's also a well written coming of (step-mother) age love story, reluctant at first between a woman and her young step-son. beautiful, sensitive, you fall gently into this story.

I think there is a film made called 'the other woman' that is based on this book.
