What Members Thought
Too long by a couple hundred pages and focused on a protagonist who is both too dumb to function and unlikable, the book’s good parts are overshadowed by these rather sizable hindrances. At the end of the day, it’s a story about a dysfunctional family and a midlife crisis with the hook of polygamy, but the polygamy angle isn’t strong enough to maintain the story. Unsolicited, I was watching a Dr. Phil rerun last weekend, and it was replayed during the week, coincidentally about the Colorado City Polygamy Commune. I've been so disturbed by this that I've had a really hard time getting into the book. I even called some of the Udall family to ask about the author and so forth. Our book hasn't gratefully touched on the topics covered in this show this week.
