I find that I am perplexed about why this is considered a young adult novel and not an adult novel that could be read by those 12 and up. The title character is a young girl, but there are plenty of novels written for adults that have young main protagonists. But I know that I enjoyed it more reading it as an adult than I would have as a young adult. This book has been on my to-read list for a long time, since before I even joined Goodreads.

I REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK. AT FIRST, I WASN'T SO SURE THAT I WANTED TO READ A BOOK NARRATED BY DEATH, BUT THE HONESTY AND THE SENSE OF HUMOR OF THIS CHARACTER ALLOWED ME TO SEE WWII FROM THE GERMAN PERSPECTIVE OF SURVIVAL FOR LEISEL AND RUDY, TWO CHILDREN CAUGHT UP IN A WAR NOT OF THEIR MAKING. EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS BOOK.
