Slow going at the start, and too many characters to keep track of. With many stops and starts to the book, I initially would take a few chapters to remember the previous events in the book.

This novel piqued my imagination of old-day New Zealand. Well written, enjoyable and a story that (mid-way) hooks you into the mystery.
