At the beginning it's slightly confusing, but if you get past the first 30 pages, you find a real treasure. One of the best books ever. Gemma is a fabulous character, the plot is orginal,and I gotta say I love it. I love the fire between Kartik and Gemma. I like how the girls are enemies from the beginning yet they become closer then any friends I have ever read about.

this is my most favorite book in the whole face of this planet! hmmm... im going on 7 or 8 times! i love it every time!
Words can really describe how magical, dark, and seductive this book was. I had originally saw it on a list on Amazon.com and later that same week I found it a my local library. So this book starts in India. Gemma Doyle and her graceful secretive mother roam the marketplace together have another heated argument. Gemma is being forced to go to finishing school so that she my be brought up as a young lady. Suddenly when a mysterious figure comes to Gemma's mother warning her of danger, Gemma says

Victorian England, a girls' boarding school, a teenage girl developing supernatural powers and opening the realms to her friends--with potentially disastrous consequences. Supernatural elements are well integrated into the story, and the characters (most of them, anyway) are realistically drawn and have distinct voices. I really enjoyed this, but don't have a lot to say about it.

BEST BOOK EVER!!!!!!!
This book will far exceed your expectations. The summary on the back of this book really does not do it justice. I realize that it sounds like a lot of the other books that our out today about girls with visions who have to find themselves blagh blagh blagh. However this book isn't. The characters are so very real and you'll find yourself growing attached to them. It's sad that this book isn't better known.
