I read a review that said if you identified with Holden Caulfield you believe that Salinger is a genius and totally gets it. If you do not identify with Holden Caulfield you do not like this book. I really wanted to like this novel. I see the title and J.D. Salinger's name quite frequently. I feel like Holden is a spoiled rich kid that has had life handed to him and he has no idea how to deal with life. He wants to say that everyone is a phony, but in reality he is the real phony. I don't like this book for several reasons:
- I was forced to read it; I don't like it when I HAVE to read a book, it doesn't let me enjoy it.
- I hated the narration, repetition is seriously annoying!
