What Members Thought
In the words of Holden Caulfield himself, "Boy, that was depressing." I'm sorry, I just don't get it. I can see why this book caused controversy (and still does), but I don't really see it as some great paragon of literature. Maybe because the lead character is the kind of person I come across on a regular basis in my job, and that made reading this book kind of like work. As with my earlier read and review of 'The Great Gatsby' this book is hard to talk about in so far as it's been talked about to death and practically everything worth saying has been said.
It's good. It's entirely understandable why it's considered one of the 'great American novels'. It's in fact easily understandable why people consider it one of the greatest novels period.
