I remember reading this book under compulsion (9th grade) and not being captured by it at all, really. Probably should go back to re-read now.
I remember loving this book so much in secondary school, It's a wonderful African read.

I learned a little more of the culture of Nigeria's tribes and the pride, arrogance and dominion of tribal men. I got a sense of yet another culture of male dominance which adds to my gratitude of my own quality of life as a woman. I am again reminded of how pride can eventually be the downfall of any person who holds on and allows it to rule their life completely. This book is another 3 1/2 stars in my book.

It is a story of a man from a Nigerian village at about the time of colonialization. A little slow starting, but well written and interesting story of their culture and challenges.
This book gives great in-site into the clash of cultures, finally from the side of the "heathen" A wise book but not so fun to read.
