I started reading this with the full understanding that the story would be infused with a lot of religous/spiritual ideation-I knew that going in and as a "non-religious" person thought I'd still give it a read based on its enormous popularity. The story started out great because there was an actual story in the first part of the book. Young is a fantastically talented writer. I enjoyed this book enough to recommend it to people I know that have some religion to them. I can tell you the author has not gone though a missing person or a murder of someone close to them. I thought it was just a little too neat for what has happened. "The Great Sadness" was suppose to reflect Mack's depression but it seemed more like a way to describe a place where the author had never been.

This book is 246 pages of emotion. I can honestly say that I laughed, cried, felt anger, and joy. I am by no means a person who typically reads books about God or religion at all, but this book drew me in, and I couldn't put it down. I firmly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in a take on God not seen before. While I can't say that it fundamentally changed me, but it certainly got me thinking. ...more
