The Underground Railroad as a machine that travels rails in underground tunnels, just as I pictured it as a child. I remember being well into my teen years before my father explained the reality to me. The characters of Cora, and her cast of supporting actors are well developed. I routed for them, feared for them and thought about them when I put the book down at night.
