I was so excited to read this book. It seemed so mysterious, exciting and fun by the synopsis. However, it is so boring and slow. I thought this book was going to be action packed. A fierce competition, two magicians dueling? Another reviewer called them slugs and I have to agree. There is no excitement. Love this book. I thought the writing was wonderful and Erin really painted a great picture. I felt a little let down at the end of the book but that may have been because I wanted to keep reading more.
This was not what I expected and upon completion, I feel I need to re-read it. It's good! It's one of those books where you don't realize it right away, but the author is WAY more intelligent than the reader and now I have to go back and appreciate her brilliance. For those who enjoyed Harry Potter, this brings you back into a magical world. If you listened to HP on audio, you'll appreciate that fact that Jim Dale narrates the audiobook.
