What Members Thought
If I had to review this book with one word it would be, "Huh?" This book reads like character study or first draft of Mockingbird. She doesn't seem to know what her point is and the reader doesn't either. Those long exchanges between Scout and Attics and Scout and her uncle about race/ law/ southern culture are confusing and - again - leave you wondering about what Lee was getting at. This was definitely no To Kill A Mockingbird, and it started quite slow. Although it left me frustrated and pondering, I did enjoy this story. I couldn't fall in love with the characters as I did in To Kill A Mockingbird, but because it gained my attention and involved me emotionally, I still enjoyed it. This would be a great book club read because when it is finished you really want to discuss the issues and perspectives brought up in this story.
