Just finished this chilling depiction of one girl's desolation and recovery following a shattering act of violence that she cannot bring herself to tell anyone about.
While the reviews that I'd read disclosed the secret and I knew what to expect on one level, there were many more levels here than just that. This book is as much about healing and understanding as it is about the damage that was done.

Speak is a book that needed to be written. It's about a girl who has entered 9th grade is losing her voice, her trust and herself. Ms. Anderson handles a very difficult situation beautifully. The book is sweetly tender and poignant enough that it brought tears because you could feel the pain this girl goes through. While it's a tough situation to talk about it is worth the read and one I would recommend any parent read with their daughters - and then talk about it.

Deserves to be held up as a seminal book for YA. Covers ground that feels pretty much necessary for all teens to know and read.
Just thought about this book, and I need to write a review soon.
