Katniss gave that fake vote of “yes” and killed Coin, for Prim? Well, I damnit I’m downgrading to a 4 star review – for Finnick.

When I finished the book: This is not a real "fun" or "cheerful" read, but I think it's the perfect ending to the trilogy. I take it all back about Collins not being great at endings! Love the cover, too! Can't wait to read the whole trilogy again, with my younger son, when he's ready. Now that it's over, a tattoo is definitely in order, as a tribute to how much I love these books.

Listened in 2020. Still love the ending.

Wow, three words sums up this book...

What. A. Ride.

beginnning to end this book was just a complete roller coaster.
Katniss has grown so much, The girl who volunteered to save her sister at the beginning was trapped inside a concrete tower that she had built for herself. refusing to let anybody in and focused solely on keeping her little family alive.

Cracks begin to appear, after loosing Rue, Cinna, Mags, Wiress etc and seeing her whole life blown to ashes she begins to realise that she does c Wow, three words sums up this book...

Cracks begin to appear, after loosing Rue, Cinna, Mags, Wiress etc and seeing her whole life blown to ashes she begins to realise that she does care and through mockingjay we see her finally tearing down that wall and speaking for herself, her words?

"If we burn, you burn with us!"

Underneath all this change though, beneath the guilt and grief she feels for all the deaths she believes she contributed to she still retains many of her old ways. she's cold at times, she's selfish at times and she is afraid to rely on or take take orders from anyone else.

Prim's death was something I did not see coming at all and I'm sure Katniss never did either. Watching the one person that has always been able to get through Katniss's protective barrier die in such a controversial way. It really drives home the message that there are NO winners in a war. There is too much death, anger, confusion for either side to truly feel that they've won.

For those saying that they can't understand why Katniss just let Gale leave without saying or doing anything to stop him, think about it this way, no matter what happened in the future Katniss will always be wondering...was it his bomb idea that killed her little sister? Katniss finally realised that Gale belonged to that old life. The life she can never go back to. It's like someone has come with an eraser and rubbed out Katniss's whole world, the only thing Katniss can do is build it up again from scratch but behind the new there is still the imprint of the old that will never leave. Peeta, who has gone through so much and still keeps his optimism offered her something that she needed in this new world....Hope.

Did I love this book? No...it was to heart breaking and emotionally draining for me to love it. Fantasically written, captivating and brilliant...In the end the best I can come up with is it was a good fight. ...more

I'm sad that this is the last book in The Hunger Games. It is a great book. Through the book I kept wondering if Katniss would ever get a chance to be happy. If it's not one thing, it's the Hunger Games/Capitol. She must decide whether she wants to become the Mockingjay and give the 12/13 districts the courage to coninue with the rebellion or not. Emotional book, especially for me, I hope to be able to read more amazing books from Suzanne Collins. ...more

Words can’t describe how much I was waiting for this book to come out. But when it was done and read, I feel kinda numb. I’m giving this book a rating of 5 stars because this book was one that I couldn’t stop reading, but it’s close to a 4 in so many different aspects. Catching Fire totally leaves so much in the air and Mockingjay picks up after some time so in my mind I’m thinking ‘the capitol has been torturing poor Peeta how long and Katniss is in total bre ***Spoilers Galore in my review ****

I’m giving this book a rating of 5 stars because this book was one that I couldn’t stop reading, but it’s close to a 4 in so many different aspects. Catching Fire totally leaves so much in the air and Mockingjay picks up after some time so in my mind I’m thinking ‘the capitol has been torturing poor Peeta how long and Katniss is in total breakdown mode back in District 13’. The whole beginning of the book is Katniss, along with Finnick, Gale, and the survivors of District 12 in the underground in
District 13 dealing with the District 13 president and the whole ‘Katniss is the Mockingjay’ propaganda campaign for the rebellion. They can see Capitol programs of Peeta so they know he’s alive and so that just breaks Katniss more. I wish there was more story about the rescue mission (which I kinda was hoping Mockingjay was going to be about), but all there was was Katniss and Finnick sitting back in district 13 playing with string and tying knots. Really? As soon as Finnick was reunited with his Annie you knew that even that happy story was not going to last. I’m glad there was more about Gale but in this book he was portrayed so cold and hardened. Gale was ready to kill all those people in District 2 and he and Beetee came up with that double explosion bomb which in turns ends up killing Prim and the idea of Katniss ever chosing to be with Gale. Way to go Gale. The mood of the book was so dark with all those character deaths, gore, killings, blood, Finnick’s story about how he was used, breakdowns ...depressing. I wanted more Cinna but even he bit the dust without so much as a sentence in the book. Peeta was not the Peeta in the other books which in itself was so depressing. Also, the book seemed so rushed in the end, it was like SC just wanted to stick Katniss and Peeta together and move on. Like I said it's still a 5 star in my book but I still wish the mood of the book was not so about the war and more on love and hope. ...more

oh. my. gosh. I loved this book. actually to be honest I loved the whole trilogy, but this one was my favorite. I can't even explain how much I loved it. and not because it's some sappy happy ending type books, because it's the complete opposite. these books of are full of loss and suffering and hatred and war. but they are also filled with perseverance and strength and love. and they are amazing. I can't believe I waited this long to read these books, but i'm glad I finally did. ...more

I found the first couple hundred pages or so were hard to really get into. I forgot some of the characters and had to revisit the second book in the series. Then I got into the story and couldn't put it down. Let's just say if you do read this book have some tissue close by. I wept at the end. ...more
