Suzanne Collins blew our minds away with a book called the Hunger Games. After reading that I was extatic to find out that it's sequel, a novel called Catching Fire, was soon to come out. While I waited I fought for Gale, sympathized for Peeta, and worried about Katniss every day. So when Catching Fire came out I couldn't get my hands on it soon enough. It didn't dissapoint. (By the way, you really shouldn't be reading this if you haven't read the first book.)

It has been about six months sense t Suzanne Collins blew our minds away with a book called the Hunger Games. After reading that I was extatic to find out that it's sequel, a novel called Catching Fire, was soon to come out. While I waited I fought for Gale, sympathized for Peeta, and worried about Katniss every day. So when Catching Fire came out I couldn't get my hands on it soon enough. It didn't dissapoint. (By the way, you really shouldn't be reading this if you haven't read the first book.)

It has been about six months sense the Hunger Games have ended and Katniss has come home with her fake lover Peeta. Before, Katniss feels like her lifes been ripped to shreds, but it gets worse when her own family and friend's lives are threatened and she and Peeta trully become puppets as they go about the districts, trying to support the Capitol to protect the lives of others back home. But it is too late and the uprissings begin to burn angrier and angrier and Peeta and Katniss are put in further danger as the Capitol tries to stomp out the flames.

In hundreds of sick twists and turns Katniss, Peeta, and thankfully, Gale make they're way to... what? We don't really know. The end of this book will drive you nuts just like the first. Just warning you. Ya know, it's a pain to have to wait for a year but it's worth it for these books. Why? Why do you ask???

Okay, Katniss is an amazing power house and she doesn't even know it. She is so complex. She cares for the ones no one cares for and kindles what shouldn't be kindled, things that shouldn't be bright but does it just to protect others and of coarse, shove it in the Capitols face. She motivates. She is compassionate. She is motivating. She inspires. And despite all she's put through she doesn't go insane, just teaters on a dangerous brink between life and death, all the while pushing to... like I said, whaat? That's what's is so cool. She doesn't know if it will all be in vain but she tries either way with at gerneral goal in mind, keeping the ones she loves alive.

The love triangle! Who doesn't love a good love triangle? Kat is torn between two guys who both are madly in love with her but have different motivations, dreams, ideas about the world. One is herself, the other the opposite. It's horrible because the line between choosing are so vague we have no idea who she'll end up with.

The plot. It has a message. It means something to a lot of people out there. Suzanne puts us in a place in the future that isn't that far of a stretch. In fact, it's reminsent of what we used to do in ancient Rome, the gladiator fights (which were part of her insperation). She shows us the troubling line between reality and and script. And it's all to clear and obscure in Catching Fire.

This book delves farther into the political Panem as Katniss's understanding of her world expands and developes. The choices she makes become harder, yet more clear. The line between rebelion and submission are sharp and she knows what she's doing when she chooses sertian coarses of action. It horrifies us but makes us proud to know her.

Perhaps, the Hunger Games was better suited for a younger audience than this. I'd jack up the age for this around thirteen probably as the violence becomes more motivated and adult perhaps. Just warning parents out there. But it's also brilliant and reaks of rebellion against, tyranny, injustice, and cruelty that has branched throughout Panem from the Capitol and into the districts as they begin to fight for they're right to choose, to make a way for their children, and to live. ...more

Great book--can't wait for the third. I do wish Collins had filled in some blanks for the readers on little things like where each district is located & their industry. Surely Katniss knows this from watching the Hunger Games every year on TV, yet Collins AGAIN leaves this info. out!! Little things like that help the reader visualize the story. I'm using these books in my freshmen English class (the kids LOVE them), but these little details would have enhanced the story so much more!!! ...more

I read this book in the matter 2 days. But when I did tear myself away from this book, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I thought it was a GREAT sequel to an amazing first book. When there is an amazing movie and they make a sequel, there is just too big of shoes to fill and you are left in disappointment. That's how I felt when I entered this book, I highly doubted it would fill in those big shoes. And let me tell you, this book filled into those shoes very nicely. This story is so deep and I ...more
