Solid 4♥'s.... and a little extra.

Solid PNR series with an interesting take on 'current' vampire mythology. It was a little quick, but it kind of comes with the territory once you start adding alpha master vampires, funky vampire chemistry/hormones, a seriously weird and stressful kidnapping situation... basically, the suspension of belief for the sake of the story isn't difficult. It's fun- not quite 'fluff' PNR romance because it has more 'meat'in the story.

I am really enjoying this series. I loved the concept of this paranormal world in book 1, and book 2 is even better. I am so excited to move onto the next one.

I loved Mirren’s character. He is one badass vampire. I think the man could give Bones a run for his money. I think most women will love Mirren, not just because he’s an uber Alpha male hero, but because he’s also a tragic Alpha hero. This is a unique series with interesting and new vampire tendencies. I particularly liked Mirren Kincaid, what a tortured hero he was. I think Gloriana Cummings is the perfect heroine for him. I enjoyed seeing Mirren fall in love and kick ass when necessary. I continue to enjoy the little town of Penton and hope Matthias gets what's coming to him real soon. ...more

...Continuing re-read of the series in preparation for finally sinking my teeth into book #3.

I think I actually like this book better than book #1. It's still a wee bit 'insta-romance' but taking into account all those vampire-alpha-hormone-mate-paranormal type stuff, it's really to be expected. Despite the wee 'insta', it's really good. Ups and downs, and avoiding feelings until finally giving in to the lust. It's a solid PNR worth the read.

Excellent story.
I really liked Mirren and Glory.
Right out of the gate this girl knew she was special and that Mirren would be her salvation. They worked as a team and even though Mirren didn't think he was worthy of Glory, he never left to her own devices. And Glory, she didn't hold his past over his head, instead she saw the man that he truly was. What awesome team. The accidental mating was cute and neither Mirren or Glory really fought it. I am smiling right now. I am happy. I can't wait to get into book Three!

To begin with? I loved Glory and Mirren! And the story telling, world building, war, tension, the blood, the romance. All outstanding!

To begin with? I loved Glory and Mirren! And the story telling, world building, war, tension, the blood, the romance. All outstanding!

Background...Aiden (book 1) a 400 year old Master Vamp started a community where the vampires and humans who feed them are all bonded by blood to either he or his lieutenants. In return he protects them, provides a good life for them and a loving community to live in.

Because of a plague that hit the earth, many if not most humans have become vaccinated. That has caused human blood to become poisonous for vampires who rely on that blood to feed and stay alive. Their hope is that they can hang on until the next generation of humans grows up to be adults and can be fed from....but until then, starvation is out of control and so is violence against humans who happen to have not been vaccinated.

Aiden's community is full of vaccinated humans. There are many vampires around the world studying Aiden's model and are looking to see if it is successful, and many others are envious, jealous and suspicious of Aiden, that his is really an attempt to grab power and take over the tribunal.

In book two, Minnan, another 400 year old master vampire is Aiden's second in command. He is a quiet, 6'8" Scottish warrior who has a violent past, is saved by a broken down, also imprisoned, heroine addicted, blood whore. When he can escape being imprisoned by Aiden's enemy, Mathias, he elects to take Glory with him. There is something about this woman and he needs to see her saved and healed....protected.

Glory is strong, forward, sassy, positive and really her own person. She is the type of girl who if you came in contact with, you'd want to know. And to top it off, I think she was the perfect mate for Mirren. He is carrying a heavy emotional load....one we never saw in book 1 because all we saw was what the whole town saw...a former enforcer, assassin, mercenary...but what he hid from us and the town was how tired he was of the killing and how it had damaged his soul.

We got to see Glory at her worst, strung out on heroine, used by vampires as a blood whore, dying, lost and begging Mirren to kill her. And yet, even then I liked her....she has a spark about her. She latched on to Mirren and did not let go....she was not afraid of him and after planting her in his house she went to work at making herself at home....as if she belonged there.

She was the only one to say no to Mirren and only someone like her could inch into his life and grab hold of his heart. They were well matched I loved how easily they got along and one of the best parts was when she would be trying to convince him of something or other and kept chatting...he would say, "Stop!" and put his hand over her mouth! If I could be a heroine in any book.....I would be Glory!

Now Mathias, the evil, sociopath tribunal member and arch enemy of Aiden (the head of the Scaythe or group of bonded humans and vampires) was even more motivated to bring down Penton and Aiden. But he wanted Glory back (did I mention she had telekinetic powers?) And thought having Mirren back in his post as "eliminator" was a good thing too. But what he really wanted was his son Will back under his thumb. It had to bug him to no end to see his son blood bonded to Aiden and his lieutenant.

Watching the politics, the manipulation and maneuvering he played out amongst the tribunal members to get sanction for going after Aiden was really diabolical. He is so pure evil! And his lack of regard for life.....example: making Glory a heroine addict and killing (view spoiler) ...more
