This was a re-read for me and it was just as good the second time. I had forgotten how vulnerable Rhiannon is in this book. In the future installments that's not the case. Rhiannon has to be my all time favorite MC her sarcasm and actions are so funny. When I look back to this book compared to the last one the transformation and growth that Rhiannon goes through is crazy. I do wish there had been more scenes with Paine in book 1 though. Someone is harvesting vampire organs! Who or what can knock the vampire off the top of the food chain? That's one of the questions master vampire Disco puts to human necromancer/bartender Rhiannon Murphy when he asks for her help.

This is the third time I've read this book but this is the new edition was a little more to the story than before. All in all not a whole lot that's different but the new parts were great. Especially Disco's pre-vamp story. The main thing I got from this reread though was, I forgot how drool worthy Disco is and what a bad a$$ Rhiannon is. This steady to fast paced plot keeps readers hovering on the edge of anticipation with lots of suspense, excitement and romance. This steady to fast paced plot keeps readers hovering on the edge of anticipation with lots of suspense, excitement and romance. The author brings the story to life with well written scenes and details that capture the imagination and the intriguing world arouses curiosity and ensures that the reader wants to know every last detail. The characters are strong, charismatic and grab the reader attention from the very beginning while the well orchestrated suspense and excitement draw the reader deeper into the story.

Rhiannon has some emotional issues from her past that hinders ability to trust and she really doesn’t understand her affinity for the dead or undead, so when she finds herself attracted to Disco, she fights giving in to his demands. The reader can’t help but get caught up in their romance as Disco tries to penetrate Rhiannon’s walls and learn her secrets while their desires burn up the pages with some hot and steamy sex scenes.

The world J.A. Saare has created is fascinating and has a lot of interesting elements and surprising twists to keep the readers guessing. All of the characters are compelling but Rhiannon really stands out, she’s insecure and has no clue about the world she gotten caught up in, but yet she’s a strong kick ass heroine, kind of contradictory but certainly works for her and Disco of course is just too hot and maybe too good to be true, well have to see if the other shoe drops or if there is more than meets the eye. While I thought the beginning was a little slow to start off, it wasn’t long before I was completely caught up in the story and I can’t wait find out what happens next… especially as the conclusion leads me to believe it will be a things about to get really interesting in her world. ...more

This was quite a difficult book for me to rate for some reason. I started off unable to put it down. The story was intriguing, the writing suspenseful, and there was great chemistry between the characters. I was thinking a 4-5 star book right off the bat.

Somewhere in the middle the writing became awkward and the romance felt rushed. It was almost like the author felt she had to put a sex scene in there so that people would like the book. I then assumed this was just another PNR disguised as a ...more

I had big hopes for this series:( the plot was just like almost every other urban fantasy these days.
The herione is a tough woman with trumatic past and can see ghosts(how original)
The book was full of crude language,I dont understand why most of the urban fantasies have two things that make me cringe,sexual abuse and foul language.Why cant they be more like Mercy Thompson series or Chicagoland vampire series.
