I had put off reading this book after getting it years ago. Boy, was I in for an arduous ride. This book was unnecessarily long and was in desperate need of major editing. It's been almost 2 decades since this book was published, so kinda explained some of the outdated ideas that were present in the book. I skimmed the last 40% of this book literally. I can for sure tell you that it didn't matter because the story didn't change much. Good thing for me, bad thing for the book. I felt such reli 2.5

I had put off reading this book after getting it years ago. Boy, was I in for an arduous ride. This book was unnecessarily long and was in desperate need of major editing. It's been almost 2 decades since this book was published, so kinda explained some of the outdated ideas that were present in the book. I skimmed the last 40% of this book literally. I can for sure tell you that it didn't matter because the story didn't change much. Good thing for me, bad thing for the book. I felt such relief by the end of it. I almost DNF-ed, but I was in too deep. This had an extreme slow burn ever in the history of romance books, and it wasn't the good kind. It literally felt we were in every step of the pregnancy journey.

There were some highlights. I was engaged in the beginnings of the book despite having to go through reading David and Blair's disaster journey (I still think we could have fast forwarded), but it quickly tapered off when I realised we still have very long ways to go (realising this at around 30-40%). Kylie and Blair had a lot of conversations. It's all they do in this book, which is great! Really... I think? I complained about how much I wish in romance books people communicate more before. But damn, they sure do communicate like it's their lifeline here, about.. almost everything. With that said, I like how the book was unafraid for the two characters to have uncomfortable conversations. They clear up issues with each other. They react to each other the way how their personalities would allow them to react, which is really great. But some of the talks they had when they're having sex were wildly corny at times. (Like??? I lol-ed at them) Kylie and Blair had clear contrasting personalities, and it showed when they clashed, thought about things differently from each other, and they worked together to understand each other and grow as individuals and as a couple. It showed with almost every conversation they had. I think I like learning about the pregnancy stuff at times, but the problem was it was just a little too long.

However, I was unconvinced in the overall romance. Kylie's total devotion and support towards Blair was baffling. And Blair only truly reciprocated at around 80%. The flip flop of third person perspectives within a page was very confusing. The book hinted at David's subtle racism, but that was just that. We moved on. The twist towards the end made me laugh. I truly did not see it coming. But the book was almost over that I didn't mind it as much. I'd say more about the characters and the story, but I think the exhaustion of this book had left me makes me want to just forget it all.

The book literally explores Blair's and Kylie's relationship from top to bottom. If that is your thing, then this would be the book for you. ...more
