A while back I read a review of this edition in which the reviewer blamed the author for the city of Stirling being misspelled “Sterling” ON THE FIRST PAGE. I would like to wash my hands of responsibility for this error, which does not appear in the English original! I want to say it's a typo, not a translation error. But I am pretty sure mos ...more

Can't really discuss the book without spoiling it for the next reader. Don't read any reviews, the blurbs or discussions. Go into this one cold and you'll find a riveting book that I wanted to immediately read again to appreciate just how complex the narrative is. Some may not appreciate the narrative style - but it lends so much to the overall story. It may go up to five stars on the second read. ...more

This was seriously intense, so I had to put it down a couple of times and take a cleansing breath before I could dive back in, but overall I thought it was a great book, and a must read for everyone.

Last night, when I finished the book, I had planned to give it 4 stars (although it felt like a 4.5 book), but this morning I woke up still thinking about it and I just...I can't stop thinking about this book.
It managed to surprise me a great deal, to make me feel A LOT... something that's still going on, apparently... so yeah. Five stars to this great book.
