This is a very well written book that covers a subject that will be a trigger for a number of readers: rape. Jae deals strongly and sensitively with the subject, not shying away from the emotional as well as physical trauma it brings. There is great empathy in her writing, and while the subject is difficult, it is not downplayed or dealt with with cursory writing. While much of the character interactions and development deal with the consequences of rape, it is not the thing that defines them. T

What a slow burn in this story. Lots of twists and turns and interesting characters and side plots. Detective and loner Aiden meets bubbly Psychologist Dawn who suffers a horrible incident that brings the two of them together. Healing, crime drama and legal proceedings make this a long, satisfying read. I hope to read more of them and in this universe in future stories.
