A historical fiction story of new beginnings.
I really enjoyed this tale of Nora and Luke forging their way across the Oregon trail to create a life together, while getting to know eachother, despite their differences and similarities... 😉
The epic adventure of the trail and the struggles were at the forefront, the drama from side characters was believable. The love and care the MC's felt for eachother and the family they created was touching.
I look forward to reading more in this series of books. ...more

Content warning for domestic violence & abuse
Before we start, I feel we should disclaim something very important : You should never, ever bind your breasts (which is wrap them in order to hide them) with bandages. For the purpose of the story, Luke has been binding her chest since twelve, but this is a story, and improper binding (which is anything without a binder, aka a piece of clothing specifically designed for binding) can and will cause problem ...more

This is one of the books I have to read every year because it is so well written. I’m glad this was recommended to me more than a couple of years ago. Jae did a good job with the setting, the characters (which I fell in love with) and the overall story.
I enjoyed the emotional journey she took us throughout the book.
I read very few historical fiction as it is not my favourite genre but I must say that I quite enjoyed this one.

I find myself very much entranced by this time period and I seem to enjoy this kind of books as much as I love fantasy themed ones. This one is a slow burn that comes along due to circumstances of life and ends up to be the life both MCs longed for. And the settings is bloody gorgeous, I felt every like I was there with them, although you may not notice it. Let's see how the home they managed to built stands the test of time.
