6 stars. Hands down my new favorite historical romance I’ve ever read. It’s hefty but I already want to read it again because I loved it so much. Luke Hamilton has my entire heart and soul. Her relationship with Nora is super slow burn with a really beautiful and engaging story and journey. I get why this is such a beloved book, it’s absolutely amazing from beginning to end. I’m glad that there are a lot of short stories and a sequel because I want to stay in this world and with these characters

Hard to believe for whatever silly reason I have not read Backwards to Oregon. I love anything Jae writes so I'm not sure what took me so long. But I was very happy to reads this. It was exciting, I believe fairly historically accurate in that I could almost feel the exhaustion and pain that it took to go across country in a wagon train. Luke and Nora are great characters and I throughly enjoyed the romance. Once I finished it I went out right away and bought Hidden Truths. As always I give Jae

I have always loved historical fiction. The problem is that it’s very hard to find a good historical fiction novel in lesbian fiction. My search is over. This book, as far as I’m concerned is perfect. It has all the elements that I feel need to be in this type of book. The characters are engaging, the story line grabbed me from almost the first page, the setting is wonderful and I just loved the book! Upon completion, I had an overwhelming urge to go find my copy of the Oregon Trail game.

This was an amazing book, which is not surprising. Jae is one of my favorite authors and I had been putting off reading this book for a while since I knew that it is considered a favorite among her fans. While it may not be may favorite, it was a very good read that I enjoyed immensely and will be checking back in with it periodically.
The book follows Luke, a woman who is pretending to be a man, and her wife Nora, who doesn't know that Luke isn't a he. I really liked both characters but I think ...more

I loved this book so much, I read it twice. I don't normally fall for historical fiction but this one got me and refuses to let go. I have now read everything about Luke and Nora I can get my hands on. Their circumstances we know are realistic for those times, and their choices have been proven by history to be credible, so this book gets extra points for that! I liked the agonizingly slow burn, even though it did drive me a little batty at times. But Luke and Nora are so sweet together, and ind

Well this was certainly an adventure. It grabs your pretty much from the first page and doesn't let you go. It's well written and realistic with great chemistry between the characters. I'm not a massive fan of kids in books because I generally find them annoying, but not so much with this story. A great read. I got through it in an afternoon and evening.

Like many reviewers I was a little skeptical about the length of the book, but somehow I managed to zip through this book faster than I do 8 hour books. Great story. Definitely kept me interested and wondering what would happen next. The only negative about the book is I wish Nora had discovered Luke's secret earlier on in the book. I wanted more time for their real relationship to develop.
