Still keeping it at pure five stars after finishing the re-read of the revised and expanded second edition published by Ylva. This great book is now even better.

Bombig!!

Recently changed my rating from a 4 to 5 star.

The power of the repressed passions, quality of the writing and sheer gritty realism of the prose blew me a away and has stayed with me even after reading 2 more of Jae's novels (Second Nature and Conflict of Interest).

Her best novel yet, but now off to read Hidden Truths...

I just reread this book for probably the 4th time. These are probably two of my favorite characters in any book I've read in a long time. There will never be enough sequels or short story spin-offs to satisfy me. I will probably never tire of Luke and Nora.

edit: Just finished rereading the newly revised edition from Ylva Publishing. Me and Cheri did a co-review of it if you want to check it out at C-Spot Reviews.

I have always loved historical fiction. The problem is that it’s very hard to find a good historical fiction novel in lesbian fiction. My search is over. This book, as far as I’m concerned is perfect. It has all the elements that I feel need to be in this type of book. The characters are engaging, the story line grabbed me from almost the first page, the setting is wonderful and I just loved the book! Upon completion, I had an overwhelming urge to go find my copy of the Oregon Trail game.

I loved this book so much, I read it twice. I don't normally fall for historical fiction but this one got me and refuses to let go. I have now read everything about Luke and Nora I can get my hands on. Their circumstances we know are realistic for those times, and their choices have been proven by history to be credible, so this book gets extra points for that! I liked the agonizingly slow burn, even though it did drive me a little batty at times. But Luke and Nora are so sweet together, and ind ...more

I enjoyed the detail and true to life feel of traveling across the county on the wagon train to Oregon. The hardships, the rough travel conditions, were so detailed and well written I felt I was along for the journey. (without the blisters)
