Quite liked this. Wasn't really a fan on how it ended but overall I enjoyed it. Pretty high fantasy that has knights, dragons, Kings and Queens, etc. Rowan the outcast gets swept up fairly quickly into a, dare I say, near Tolkien'ess type adventure. I say that because with a lot of fantasy there's TONS of traveling involved. And that did bog it down for me a bit. I loved this book. The author builds the world slowly and clearly. The characters are distinctive and all come together to make everything live. Aside from needing to do a bit of work and get some sleep, I read this straight through. By the end I was a little bit in love with several of the characters and felt emotionally involved in their struggles. It's a rare treasure to find such a well written fantasy book with gay women, let alone one with a gay main character. It shot right up into my top 5 books without any pause for though. looking forward to the rest of the series :)
