I'm not sure how to rate this. I mean I really like the story and characters but I struggle with the ending. Not going to spoil anything but I didn't like the "god" talk at all. It really felt preachy and illogical. It was very unnecessary for the story in my opinion. The book is also way too long, there's a lot of stuff she could've cut out but otherwise I did enjoy her writing and again the story is pretty good. ...more

I started Reading this because Diana Gabaldon is so praised everywhere and because I love Scotland and historical novels.
In the beginning I was taken by the beautiful writing and interesting characters but then it got worse and by page 90 I was bored stiff!! And gave up!
Somehow I felt I've read it all before, and THAT is not interesting.
Read some of the * reviews and was relieved for giving up, as it seems to get even worse.

And I'm truly sorry I couldn't like it!!

This is really a higher 3. Somewhere in the 3.6-8 range. Claire is a wonderful character. And for a book where I thought it was gonna be all about hetero historical romance and such (which is really just not my thing) I was surprised. I mean... It IS that, make no mistake, this is the story about a woman who falls through time and falls in love with a big hulking dude, but it's done well. And her story on her own is interesting, as is the big hulking dude's, and the other people she meets. That, ...more
