This is such a good book. Nearly perfect. The writing is flawless - especially the dialogue. And the characters are beautifully wrought. Laurence in particular is so appealing because he tries SO hard to conceal his exuberant, irrepressible decency. The best moments are his stiff-lipped attempts to keep control as his benevolent passions threaten to spill, impolitely, over into good deeds; observe his barely restrained conduct toward Levitus and rage toward his rider.
