I have actually first seen this book as a part of the “Weston Woods” series and I have really enjoyed it! “King of the Cats” is a spooky children’s book by Paul Galdone and it is about how a gravedigger discovers a mysterious ceremony that is occupied by cats! “King of the Cats” is a truly brilliant book for cat and spooky tale lovers everywhere!

One night, a gravedigger ran to his wife and their black cat Old Tom and told them about how he saw the strangest sight in the graveyard. The gravedigge I have actually first seen this book as a part of the “Weston Woods” series and I have really enjoyed it! “King of the Cats” is a spooky children’s book by Paul Galdone and it is about how a gravedigger discovers a mysterious ceremony that is occupied by cats! “King of the Cats” is a truly brilliant book for cat and spooky tale lovers everywhere!

The gravedigger said that he saw a procession of black cats that all look like their cat Old Tom and they were carrying a small coffin and when the black cats came up to the gravedigger, they said:

Oh my goodness! I never would have imagined that I would have loved this book so much! Paul Galdone has done an excellent job at both writing and illustrations of this haunting story about a mysterious procession of black cats. I loved the way that Paul Galdone’s writing was told from the gravedigger’s’ point of view on the strange event that unfolded in the graveyard and I also loved how Paul Galdone made the book suspenseful without being too scary for smaller children. When I was reading through this book, I was literally at the edge of my seat trying to figure out why the cats were carrying a coffin around the graveyard and who was in that coffin! Paul Galdone’s illustrations are truly beautiful and colorful, despite the book’s dark mood. I really liked the illustrations of Old Tom himself as he has a white furry chest and black fur all over his body along with spooky yellow eyes that truly makes him look spooky in this book. I also loved the appearance of the cat procession that is carrying the coffin as they are standing on their hind legs and are carrying red bouquets of roses and a huge brown coffin with a red crown in the middle. I also loved the way that the pictures have dark colorings when we are shown the graveyard and I loved the way hat Paul Galdone made the word “Meow” into large golden letters which truly made the book truly effective.

Overall, “King of the Cats” is a truly brilliant and haunting book that children who are cat lovers will love for many years! I would recommend this book to children ages five and up since the spooky atmosphere might frighten smaller children.
