In book one, Rose and Lissa are 17 years old and attending St. Vladimir’s Academy. Rose is a dhampire training to become a guardian, Lissa’s guardian. In book one, Rose and Lissa are 17 years old and attending St. Vladimir’s Academy. Rose is a dhampire training to become a guardian, Lissa’s guardian. This healing connected Rose and Lissa with a bond, allowing Rose to see through Lissa’s eyes and feel her emotions. When a teacher witnessed Lissa's spirit magic, she encourages Lissa to runaway. Rose and Lissa do just that and after two years on the run, the girls are found and returned to school. In order to get caught up in her curriculum, Rose trains before and after school with Dimitri Belikov. Dimitri is a 25 year old guardian, who has a reputation for being exceptional in his work. Rose is attracted to Dimitri and the feeling appears to be mutual. Lissa is struggling with the affects of her spirit magic, causing her to seep into depression. After almost bleeding to death from cutting herself, she is put on medication and begins counselling. Lissa falls for a royal moroi named Christian. Unlike most royals, Christian became an outsider when his parents intentionally turned strigoi in search for immortality. Lissa is being terrorized by a hidden enemy and is later kidnapped by her Uncle Victor. Rose, Dimitri, and Christian use Rose’s bond with Lissa to find her. Lissa is saved and they all return to the school.

In book two, Rose and Lissa are both excelling in school. Lissa and Christian are in love and Lissa is working on her spirit magic with an instructor. Rose is training hard and doing exceptionally well. While trying to keep her feelings for Dimitri controlled, she distracts herself with another Dhampir boy named Mason. When the Strigoi implement a massive attack, the students, parents, teachers, and Guardians join forces at a ski resort. Rose’s mother is one of the guardians and Rose takes every opportunity to taunt her mother. Lissa meets Adrian, another royal with Spirit Magic and learns more about herself in the process. Mason, Eddie, and Mia, run away from the resort to hunt down a nest of Strigoi, while Rose and Christian follow them to bring them back to the school. The group is caught by humans and strigoi and are starved, dehydrated and exhausted. Rose devises a plan, Mason is killed, Rose decapitates two Strigoi. Rose seeks comfort from her mother and their relationship begins to mend. Dimitri confesses his love for Rose and the couple continue to struggle with their feelings.

In book three, Rose begins seeing ghosts and discovers this is due to her being shadow kissed. Adrian’s abilities allow him to see auras and he watches the after affects of Lissa’s spirit magic enter Rose. Adrian continues to pursue Rose and his friendship with Lissa grows as they help each other with spirit magic. The Queen offers Lissa to move into ‘the court’ where she will be groomed for a future in politics, while attending a close by Moroi University. The Queen then threatens Rose to stay away from her nephew Adrian. While off campus, Rose’s ghost sightings get worse and she loses consciousness. Rose and Dimitri spontaneously take their relationship to the next level and have sex. Afterwards, ghost Mason warns Rose that the strigoi are coming. She and Dimitri spring into action and a battle takes place on campus. Rose and Christian work as a team to take out strigoi and Mason tells her where the strigoi are hiding. The guardians, Rose, and Christian head to attack. The fight is over and Dimitri is killed, although his body is not found. Rose asks Mason for help, and discovers that Dimitri is now a strigoi. Rose asks Adrian for money so she can leave the school, he agrees if she promises to return and give them a real chance as a couple. She withdraws from school, says goodbye to Lissa.

In this book, Rose leaves St Vladimir’s Academy for Siberia, to hunt and kill Dimitri. While killing random strigoi, Rose meets Sydney, a human alchemist. An alchemist’s job is to keep the vampire (dhampire, moroi, and strigoi) life hidden from humans and Rose had been making her job very difficult with all the random killings. Rose keeps her true purpose to herself and the pair head for Baia, Dimitri’s hometown. After an accident, Rose awakens in the Belikov home where she was escorted by a mysterious moroi named Abe. Rose quickly grows to love the Belikov family and confesses that Dimitri was turned strigoi during the famous battle at St Vladimir’s Academy. The family welcomes her as Dimka’s widowed lover and holds a funeral for him. While staying with the Belikov family, Rose meets Oksana and Mark, a shadow kissed dhampire and spirit wielding moroi. Rose learns that the bond can save Lissa and herself from going crazy. Abe warns Rose to stay out of Baia and return home to Montana. During her travels to Novosibirsk, she meets other unpromised guardians (aka drop outs) and they work together to interrogate and kill strigoi. When separated from the group, Dimitri finds and captures Rose. This time, she awakens in a luxurious room where Dimitri plans to keep her until she agrees to turn strigoi. She starts off determined to kill him and later gets swept away in his bites and kisses. While trying to free herself, Lissa is acting reckless and moody. She’s drinking and partying with her new friend Avery. Christian is growing tired of Lissa’s behaviour and when he discovers she kissed her ex-boyfriend, he ends their relationship. Lissa’s out of control behaviour grows and in a dream, Adrian reaches out to Rose for help. Rose has become the blood whore she’s never wanted to be and manages to take control of her mind once again. She escapes from the room and when cornered by strigoi, Dimitri helps her kill the strigoi and then hunts her down. In their final battle, Rose stakes Dimitri as he falls into the river. Rose contacts Sydney, who sends a local alchemist to help. Rose awakens to Oksana healing and ‘Abe’ watching over. Rose looks into Lissa and discovers that Avery is a spirit user and is controlling Lissa’s behaviour. She had compelled Lissa to a window and was ordering her to jump. Oksana used her spirit to gain access to Rose, while Rose was inside of Lissa. Together, they got Lissa off the ledge and Adrian arrived in time to help stop Avery. With all the magic being used, Avery and her two minions were mentally fried and Lissa was safe again. Rose discovers from Oksana that there may be a way to turn a strigoi back into their former living self. Rose decides to look into this further, but first is heading home to be with Lissa. Abe escorts Rose to the airport and gifts her with his scarf to keep her warm. When Rose returned to St Vladimir’s she discovered that the scarf is a family heirloom and ‘Abe’ is infact ‘Ibrahm Mazur’, her father. Rose shares her adventures in Russia with Lissa and re-enrolled in St Vladimir Academy. Just as life is getting back to normal, Rose receives a package from Dimitri Belikov. Dimitri returned Rose’s stake with a note that he’ll see her again soon. (hide spoiler)]

WOW – this series gets better and better with each book. There’s never a dull moment and I love, love, love, the endings. I can’t wait to read the next one!

These are what i felt, while reading this. I must ssay this is my favorite series now. Dude I have a question: Is Dimitri crazy now???
really, he seems it. How i loved him..... Tragety, i tell ya.

Rose loves Dimitri more than anything. A while ago they made an agreement, "I would rather be dead, then walk the earth as a Strigoi."
