Review: Shadow Kiss is book three in the Young Adult, Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead.

This series is about Rose Hathaway, a Dhampire training to become a Guardian and her best friend, Lissa Dragomire, a special royal Moroi with Spirit Magic. Both girls are 17 years old and attending St. Vladimir’s Academy. They have a special bond that allows Rose to feel Lissa’s emotions and to see through her eyes. It also allows Lissa to send telepathic messages to Rose.

Review: Shadow Kiss is book three in the Young Adult, Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead.

This series is about Rose Hathaway, a Dhampire training to become a Guardian and her best friend, Lissa Dragomire, a special royal Moroi with Spirit Magic. Both girls are 17 years old and attending St. Vladimir’s Academy. They have a special bond that allows Rose to feel Lissa’s emotions and to see through her eyes. It also allows Lissa to send telepathic messages to Rose.

In book one, Rose was fatally injured in an accident and Lissa healed her using her spirit magic. When a teacher witnessed Lissa's spirit magic, she encouraged her to runaway. While on the run, Rose donated her blood to Lissa twice a week. This blood transfer bonded the two girls, giving Rose the ability to sense Lissa’s emotions and see through her eyes. It also gave Lissa the ability to send telepathic messages to Rose. After two years on the run, the girls are captured and returned to school. Dimitri Belikov trains Rose before and after classes, to help her get caught up in her curriculum. Lissa is struggling with depression and after almost bleeding to death, she is put on medication and begins counselling. Lissa falls for Christian, another royal Moroi, who is an outsider after his parents turned strigoi. Lissa is being terrorized by a hidden enemy and is later kidnapped by her Uncle Victor. Rose, Dimitri, and Christian use Rose’s bond with Lissa to find her. Lissa is saved and they all return to the school.

In book two, Rose and Lissa are both excelling in school. Lissa and Christian are in love and Lissa is working on her spirit magic with an instructor. Rose is training hard and doing exceptionally well. While trying to keep her feelings for Dimitri controlled, she distracts herself with another Dhampir boy named Mason. When the Strigoi implement a massive attack, the students, parents, teachers, and Guardians join forces at a ski resort. Rose’s mother is one of the guardians and Rose takes every opportunity to taunt her mother. Lissa meets another royal with Spirit Magic and learns more about herself in the process. Mason, Eddie, and Mia, run away from the resort to hunt down a nest of Strigoi, while Rose and Christian follow them to bring them back to the school. The group is caught by humans and strigoi and are starved, dehydrated and exhausted. Rose devises a plan, Mason is killed, Rose decapitates two Strigoi. Rose seeks comfort from her mother and their relationship begins to mend. Dimitri confesses his love for Rose and the couple continue to struggle with their feelings.

In this book, Rose and her fellow Guardians in Training prepare for their final exam with on-the-job training exercises. Rose is stunned to find out that she’s paired with Christian and Eddie is paired with Lissa. She can’t refuse to guard Christian, but tells the teacher she’ll be sorry for not assigning her Lissa. Rose discovers that she and Lissa are not testifying at Victor’s trial and she pleads with Dimitri to help change the court’s mind. Rose has been unusually angry lately and fears there may be another reason for her mood swings. Rose fails her first test when her attack is halted by a ghost sighting...Mason’s ghost. The teachers believe she failed on purpose and only Dimitri and Christian truly believe there was another reason behind her lack of attack. Rose seeks the school’s priest for questions about ghosts.

Lissa and Adrian are helping each other use other forms of their magic, and Christian becomes jealous over their budding friendship. Adrian continues to pursue Rose, who only has eyes for Dimitri, and rumours evolve on their own about Rose and Adrian. To help Rose, Adrian convinces with his great aunt, the Queen, to allow Lissa, Christian, and Rose to testify at court. It is agreed that Eddie will be joining Lissa, Dimitri and another guardian, Christian, Adrian, and Rose, will be attending ‘the court’. While in the air, Rose has a migraine and begins to see ghostly shapes and faces. Lissa tries to heal her, but it doesn’t work. When the plane lands, Rose’s head clears and the images are gone. While at court, Dimitri, Christian, Rose, and Lissa give their testimony. Victor is sentenced to a Moroi prison and before leaving the court room, he hints to a sexual relationship between Dimitri and Rose. No one believes him, and he’s escorted out.

The Queen speaks to Lissa privately and offers her to move into ‘the court’ where she will be groomed for a future in politics, while attending a close by Moroi University. The Queen then privately threatens Rose to stay away from Adrian and says that she has plans for Adrian and Lissa to be married. Before flying home, Lissa surprises Rose with a spa treatment and later a tarot card reading. Lissa’s cards show great things for her future and Rose is told she’ll kill the undead. Dimitri interrupts their reading and is given a reading of his own. He’s told he will lose what he desires most and to take pleasure and happiness now. When the flight takes off, Rose’s migraine and ghostly faces return. The plane is forced to land at a nearby airport and Rose’s migraine explodes along with the faces and bodies of known and unknown dead people. They’re grabbing at her and she calls out to Mason to help her, just as she blacks out. She awakens in the academy’s hospital and confesses her visions to Dimitri, the doctor, teacher, and her friends. The doctor diagnoses the condition as PTSD and prescribes counselling and her guarding duty is cut to half time with no nights. She agrees, but pleads with Dimitri to believe her that she’s seeing real ghosts.

While guarding Christian, Rose discovers a secret club on campus. When students are turning up beaten, she decides to make it her mission to find out more and stop it. When strolling with Lissa on her day off, Rose fends off another attack from the fake strigoi (teachers) as a surprise test. She passes with flying colours, taking out three teachers and saving Lissa. Christian is threatening Adrian, after finding out about the Queen’s plans for Lissa marrying Adrian. Adrian is shocked and appauled that Rose knew and didn’t tell him. When the fight is resolved, Rose senses Lissa is in trouble. Lissa is being initiated into the secret club, that she doesn’t want to join. They’re trying to get her to use compelling magic by attacking her with various forms of magic. She finally stops them and the dark magic takes over her. To help Lissa, Rose asks her to give her the darkness to stop. She does, and Rose’s anger spills over and she attacks one of the Moroi who was hurting Lissa. Dimitri pulls her off of him, and he’s rushed to the hospital. Dimitri escorts Rose out and he finally talks her down. Rose and Dimitri are deeply in love and make love to one another.

When leaving the cabin, Mason appears and tells Rose that ‘they’re coming’. She tells Dimitri, just as a strigoi attacks. Dimitri fights while Rose runs to get help. The entire academy is under attack and Roes and Christian work as a team to take out many, many strigoi. Mason tells Rose where the strigoi are hiding and the guardians, Rose, and Christian head to attack. The fight is over and Dimitri is killed, although his body is not found. Rose asks Mason for help, and discovers that Dimitri is now a strigoi. Rose asks Adrian for money so she can leave the school, he agrees if she promises to return and give them a real chance as a couple. She withdraws from school, says goodbye to Lissa and the book ends with Rose off to hunt and kill the man she loves. (hide spoiler)]

hmm i think shadow kiss is my favorite out of this series
It waas sad how dimitri is now strigoi. I WAS MORTIFIED!!!!!! dang who is this author who TOTALLY makes their readers love a charactor then they get turned.... really?? No, really?!! but i do have to say that is what has me reading these in a day. I cant wait to spirit bound comes out!!!

This is the first time I've reread this right through. I usually stop just after the. Cabin because of what happens, jut kmowing what happens in the end of the sixth book gave me courage to rereae the horrific part. Even though the last book of the eeries is what u wanted to happen and i should think sbout that I still cried my heart out again. ...more
