160217 this is a later addition: forgot to mention a possible reason i enjoyed this dickens- accidentally! in opening ebook at the wrong point, i thus began in chapter one, part three. realized error after ten pages. so i read again, started at beginning. so maybe this is how to read him! start somewhere in the middle, read as one very long flashback...

160217: this is said dickens at his least typical. this must be why i like it

Wonderful! Much darker than Dicken's usual writing but also much more intense and emotional and deep. Superb! The horror of the French Revolution and all it entailed on the people and how it affected their everyday life and outlooks is so well told that the Reader can feel that horror in their own belly.
The most beautiful love story ever.

I read this quite a few years ago and I have fond memories of how wonderfully it was written and so so romantic.

I only read this in the past 2 years - very good story. All I seem to have studied at school was Julius Ceaser and Canterury Tales.

So I see that this is an important book, but man, not very enjoyable to read. Not for me. And not until the last few pages.
