Flora Poste has just been orphaned. Luckily for her, she barely knew who parents who preferred travel and having a good time to parenthood. She is 19 and when her dear friend Mary Smiling suggests she train for a job and go to work, she announces her determination to find some relative with whom she can live and avoid working. She writes to several relations and chooses the gloomiest sounding one from Cold Comfort Farm.

A pleasant, easy read with humor. While I enjoyed the story of the Starkadders and Flora, it wasn't as funny as I expected it to be. Don't get me wrong, it's humorous & light; just not funny.

I found the characters and the situations rather vague in the sense that we're told of them and what's happening but we aren't really involved with the characters or situations. There's a mystery throughout, there are (what seems to be) easy answers/solutions to the various situations.
