This is a GREAT book. That is all. :)

The human body is like a piece of fabric. No matter how well one cares for it, it frays as it ages.

Revenge for its own sake is worse than useless.

I prefer reason and agreement. Allies are much more useful than bodies.

Wonderful first novel. I am expecting many more great things to come from this author. At times it read a lot like the fables from my childhood, like the lion and the mouse. A slow burn (pardon the pun) relationship between a golem and a jinni. I kept imagining where the story might take us but ended up surprised anyway. Unfortunately, that same literary quality that I loved so much made the book fall apart for me in the later chapters. It felt slow and self-indulgent at times, and there were dozens of pages upon pages where nothing happened. The story became tedious, and I had to force myself to finish. It's such a shame, because I adore fantasy, and t ...more

I love the writing in this novel. The way the world is imagined, the cultural detail. A sweet, if unconventional, love story. This book was recommended to me by a number of friends and co-workers. I gladly pass that recommendation on.
