What Members Thought

I struggled a little with this book. It's compellingly written and exceptionally detailed, but it's just so sad. Despite being written in the 60s, it mostly holds up. It reads as a biography. First of the victims and then of their killers, with occasional social commentary thrown in.
What dates it is more what it doesn't talk about than what it does. Capote doesn't examine the racial issues that crop up like a modern author would. He includes them where it seems relevant, but he skirts the topic ...more

When this was published back in the sixties, I can see that this would have been controversial and thriller like with how the story was written. I enjoyed how the POVs kept changing so you got different ideas/thoughts from the many characters regarding the situation, as well as, the killers. American classic.
