Book 2 in the Immortalis series. Hunters and Prey takes place a while after the battle with Santino. The one that brought Lysander to the brink of death. One night while Alyssa is out feeding she gets a feeling of being watched; still young in the art of all things vampire, she's still able to sense that a vampire is nearby. She gets a strange feeling that she knows who is watching her and with that she takes off running and instinct takes her to a place she shouldn't be...Her old hangout. When she realizes she really should turn away from the Cafe, her former best friend Fallon spots her and that's when things get interesting.

Alyssa is left wondering how to explain her being missing for so long and her odd behavior and appearance and when nothing she can think of can explain away what is going on with her she is left with no choice but to confide in Fallon and tell her the truth. Fallon is in shock but takes the news rather well but with the knowledge of Alyssa's new life comes responsibility and great danger. She is thrown into a world of vampires and the war between them and the Acta Sanctorum, and Lysander is not happy about this...especially when he realizes that Alyssa was right and Santino is back and chasing after Alyssa.

With the truth of the vampire world now on Fallon's shoulders, it puts a rift between the clan. Should the mortal be trusted or should she be killed? Lysander will have the final say. With Fallon now knowing about Alyssa it puts her in danger of being used against Alyssa and the Clan. Fallon is pulled into a war that she wishes she wasn't a part of. The hunters now have a new soldier; an unstable hybrid of hunters, that when unleased cause destruction wherever they go. These new frenzy soldiers are not only a threat to vampires but to anyone that stands in there way.

The only way for Alyssa and her Clan to survive this brutal enemy is to make a temporary alliance with the greatest threat they've ever known...Santino. Santino is against this new army, he believes in protecting the innocent and with these rogue soldiers now on the Acta Sanctorum's side he must help the vampires he once hunted in order to protect everyone. Will Santino turn against the Acta Sanctorum? Will he truely join forces with Lysander's Clan in order to rid the world of the abominations plaguing their city?

Immortalis: Hunters and Prey is an unexpected thrill ride. The story flows so easily that you don't realize it's over til the last page is in your face. Full of action, passion, comedy and characters you just want to bring into your own world, you won't be disappointed with the second installment in the Immortalis series! It leaves you wanting more. Book 3: Pandora's Box is a book I can't wait for! It can't come fast enough!

Katie has done it again in the next chapter in the life of a young vampire named Alyssa!

When I began reading the new book by Katie, Hunters and Prey, I was a little bothered by the similarity between the way Alyssa chose her victims and how Nicholas Cage's character in Ghost Rider punished his victims. Nicholas punished 'bad' people by making them feel the pain of their victims. For all those fans of Katie's first book Immortalis Carpe Noctem, you'll be glad to know that book #2 is available for those to read and book #3 is coming soon :). At the end of Book #1 we saw Alyssa fall in love with Vampire Lysander and then we read in anticipation as a war began between the Vampires and Alyssa nearly died and in order to be saved had to be turned into a Vampire. Wow!...Intense! The strength of Alyssa’s control and the depth of her rage will reel you in!

Katie Salidas has done it again! In Hunters & Prey, book 2 of her Immortalis Series, Salidas has continued Alyssa’s adventures with an “insiders” look on the trials and tribulations of a newly turned vampire.

As we learned in book one of the series, Immortalis: Carpe Noctem, getting used to the ins and outs of being a newly turned vampire is most definitely not all “candy & glamour”. As with any drastic li Wow!...Intense! The strength of Alyssa’s control and the depth of her rage will reel you in!

Katie Salidas has done it again! In Hunters & Prey, book 2 of her Immortalis Series, Salidas has continued Alyssa’s adventures with an “insiders” look on the trials and tribulations of a newly turned vampire.

As we learned in book one of the series, Immortalis: Carpe Noctem, getting used to the ins and outs of being a newly turned vampire is most definitely not all “candy & glamour”. As with any drastic life change, one must accept there are certain things that must be left behind. For Alyssa, leaving behind her best friend was one “rule” she absolutely would not abide by.

When vampire’s most vicious enemy decides to pay a visit, Alyssa does the only thing she can think of in a pinch…run to a populated area and hide in plain site until help arrives. Can she help it if she finds herself outside of an old hangout from her human days? Well maybe, but it’s too late to change her mind once she opens the door and comes face to face with her dearest friend, Fallon. Imagine the surprise when Fallon sees the face of her best friend for the first time since Alyssa disappeared months before! Needless to say, Fallon is unwillingly dragged into the mess that is now Alyssa’s life and Alyssa is stubbornly determined to do whatever it takes to make sure Fallon comes out of this chaos in one piece!

Now, there have been some who’ve mentioned that while Immortalis: Hunters & Prey is a nice change in that it explores the darker side of what it is to be a new vampire; some also mention that there just wasn’t enough to catch a “gold star”…Well, I disagree. Salidas’ provides a unique look at the darker side of the vampire with a conscience. Yes, Alyssa’s kills to feed. Yes, she feeds from humans, and yes she chooses to justify her actions by hunting only those dredges of society of whom the world is better off without. Does this make Alyssa a self-imposed judge and jury? …Maybe, I guess it depends on your perception of right and wrong. But at the end of the day, the truth is that vampires feed on human blood to survive and, as with any species, it all boils down to survival of the fittest. And, let’s face it! Vampires are undoubtedly bigger, badder, and stronger than any human!

As with Carpe Noctem (see my review here), Salidas has knocked my socks of with Hunters & Prey. With talent apparent, Katie Salidas will take readers on a dark and violent adventure that just might keep you up all night, turning the pages…or quivering in your PJ’s…or turning the pages AND quivering in your PJ’s! ...more

Hunters & Prey by Katie Salidas was a fantastic addition to this series. Alyssa is having repeated nightmares about their worst enemy, Santino, who belongs to the Acta Sanctorum. This group wishes to rid the world of vampires, deeming them monsters and killers. Lysander brushes her dreams off as stress related, that is until the enemy hits a little too close to home.

I picked up the Kindle version of this book because I often write pretty heavy stories, and when I do make the time to read, I need something light and fun to lift my spirits. I wasn’t disappointed. I think Ms. Salidas aims for dark, sensuous and brooding, but the storyline is too playful for that (although it is quite sexy in places), and her main character is too naive and airy. That’s part of its appeal, however, and why it makes for a quick, easy read.
