It is about four rules/guidelines that everyone should practice in order to make themselves healthier emotionally and learn how to live a more peaceful life. Each agreement goes into detail on how we learned to live with the way society tells us, instead of what we choose to believe. The first agreement is Be Impeccable with Your Word. The second agreement is Don't Take Anything Personally. The third agreement is Don't Make Assumptions. The fourth agreement is Always Do Your Best.
The setting originated from the Toltecs that were know throughout southern Mexico and were known as "Men and Women of knowledge". It started at the ancient city of pyramids known as the place where "Man Becomes God". The conflicts come in this book for people that don't believe in a higher power or God. Another conflict can be where people who have been abused don't believe they can change their life around for the positive.
I rate it a four out of five. The beginning is very hard to understand until you get into the actual agreements. Then it becomes very interesting and helpful and you can start to take things and practice them. I feel that anybody in 9th grade on up should read this book. These agreements are something we should all try to live by.
