She always went to the same beach house at Cousins' Beach with her mom, brother Steven, Susannah, Jeremiah, and Conrad, but this summer was different. Friends and brother figures Jeremiah and Conrad finally notice her and Belly's crush Conrad is starting to like her back, but will Jeremiah's feelings for her get in the way? Belly also has to deal with the tragedy of their mom, Susannah, and how her cancer is coming back. That summer wasn't what Belly expected.
This book takes place on Cousins' Beach: where they've gone every summer since Belly can remember. Belly has always wanted Conrad to notice her and to fall in love with her because he was Belly's first love ever. Once she steps out of the car, she can feel that this summer is going to be different. Belly deals with her feelings for the boys, her feelings about next summer, and her feelings about summers past. She realizes that summer at Cousins' is never going to be the same: Conrad and Steven are going off to college, Jeremiah is going to football camp, and Susannah could possibly die because her cancer came back.
I rate this book 5 stars because the plot was bursting with new flavors to the story. It never got boring and you would always be craving for more. I really like that Jenny Han made this book into a series too! I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a good summer read, especially people who like romance, drama, and tragedy. Also if you like Sarah Dessen, Jen Calonita, or Sara Shepard.
